Marathon Petroleum Company Garyville Major Expansion

Marathon expanded its flagship refinery in Garyville, Louisiana by 180,000 barrels per day (bpd). With the expansion, the refinery capacity grew from 245,000 bpd to 425,000 bpd, making it among the largest refineries in the country. Cajun was responsible for a significant portion of the civil work including construction of foundations for the hydrocracker unit, the kerosene hydrotreater unit, the naptha hydrotreater/continuous catalytic reducer unit, the sulfur unit, the interconnecting piperack, the tank farm, the sour water unit, and the flare. We also received award for 100% of the pile installation.

Accomplishments

  • Cajun completed the work on time and on schedule, and we were commended for our professionalism and safe work practices.
  • We implemented the use of a drawings log to allow for efficient updating and tracking of drawing changes to handle the ongoing design changes/ updates during construction and to mitigate the risks associated therewith.
