Cajun Industries, LLC unveils new plans to develop a world class module assembly yard at the Port of Iberia in New Iberia, LA. The facility will feature 61 acres, with 33 acres developed during the first phase. Developments include stabilization efforts achieving a ground bearing pressure of 2,500 PSF and critical infrastructure improvements to support 600 craft.
Modularization reduces onsite construction risks by moving a large portion of the work offsite. Modular approaches on projects generate schedule and cost savings. Schedule savings are achieved as module assembly occurs concurrently with site development. Cost savings are achieved in numerous ways. First, craft are often more productive offsite in a controlled environment. In addition to this, the reduced onsite workforce requires fewer temporary facilities, indirect craft, and supervision.
With multi-discipline design and engineering services in addition to extensive direct hire construction resources, Cajun can offer a turn-key EPFC project solution. This establishes Cajun as the only EPFC headquartered in the state of Louisiana.
The Port of Iberia has direct access to the Gulf of Mexico via the Acadiana Gulf of Mexico Access Channel (AGMAC). There are no height restrictions for modules leaving the port via the AGMAC. In the near future, the Freshwater Bayou bypass channel will be operable – this bypass channel allows large, offshore barges to access the Port of Iberia. This factor was instrumental in Cajun’s site selection.
The Port of Iberia also has access to the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW). The GIWW can accommodate a 260’x72’x16’ barge – the largest inland barge available. Height restrictions sit around 60’-70’ for modules leaving the Port via the GIWW.
Not only will Cajun be able to accommodate modules shipped via water, but we will be able to ship large, truck-able modules as well. The Port of Iberia is seconds away from US HWY 90 (future I-49 extension), a major thoroughfare in the southcentral Louisiana area.
Cajun’s new development is set to significantly boost the economy in the Acadiana area by creating numerous job opportunities. This initiative not only promises economic growth but also leverages a strategic partnership with Iberia Parish, focusing on workforce development to ensure that the community benefits from all that Cajun has to offer as an employer of choice in Louisiana.
