The Cajun Companies Capture Numerous Awards

The companies of Cajun Industries captured three Awards of Excellence and five Awards of Merit from the Pelican Chapter of ABC and two Awards of Excellence from the Bayou Chapter of ABC. In addition, the Halliburton-Fourchon CFS Plant and the Verenium Cellulosic Ethanol Plant projects, both ABC chapter award winners, also received awards of excellence as part of South Central Construction magazine’s Best of 2008 feature.

Chevron presented the Chevron Gulf of Mexico Outstanding Crew Award to the Cajun Maritime crew of the Chevron GOM SMI 217 Debottlenecking/Flatrock Project. The award recognized an incident free operation, a great working relationship with Chevron and other contractors, a strong behavioral based safety program, a strong JSA process, attendance at Chevron Safety/Operational Meetings, and outstanding housekeeping. The Cajun Maritime leadership team and crew members accepted the award on December 9th at the Chevron Health and Environmental Safety Management Forum in New Orleans.

Cajun’s safety culture has also been recognized. Cajun Constructors, Inc. received the 2008 Contractor Safety Excellence Award (medium category) from the Greater Baton Rouge Industry Alliance (GBRIA).

In addition to an ABC Award of Merit, the Task Order 1, Contract 2B, Boomtown Casino to Hero Pumping Station, East of Harvey Canal Floodwall project, also received the American Concrete Institute’s Louisiana Chapter Award of Excellence. The award will be presented at the Louisiana Chapter Best Concrete Projects Banquet on January 16, 2009 at the English Turn Country Club.

The ABC Chapter awards are listed below with a description of the winning projects. The Bayou Chapter Awards were presented on November 5, 2008 at the Chateau Country Club in Kenner, Louisiana. The Pelican Chapter Awards will be presented at a banquet on January 15, 2009 at the Hilton Capitol Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

All eight of Cajun’s award winning projects are now eligible for an ABC National Award of Excellence or Merit Award.

ABC Bayou Chapter

Award of Excellence
Halliburton-Fourchon CFS Plant – Cajun Constructors, Inc. – This turn-key project involved the expansion of the existing facility. The project included five new mix pits, pumps, and associated process equipment, which increased the facility’s production by 250%.

Verenium Cellulosic Ethanol Plant – Cajun Constructors, Inc. – This project involved construction of the first cellulosic ethanol plant in North America. It spanned 23 months and 350,000 man-hours and was accomplished without any recordable or lost time incidents.

ABC Pelican Chapter

Award of Excellence
Chevron GOM SMI 217 Debottlenecking/Flatrock – Cajun Maritime, LLC – Cajun completed the throughput capacity increase of SMI217 from 70 MMcf per day to 500 MMcf per day, expanding the production capacity of the facility over 700%.

Sawmill 69 kV Substation – Cajun Deep Foundations, LLC – This was a turn-key deep foundation project that involved several varieties of drill shaft installation methods. A majority of the shafts involved slurry and temporary casings which required specialty equipment in an extremely congested and confined work area.

West Bank & Vicinity Hurricane Protection Task Order Number 2, Bayou Segnette Flood Gate and Flood Wall– Cajun Constructors, Inc. – This project was one of several phases to build a hurricane flood protection wall, which, upon completion, will protect more than 200,000 residents of Jefferson Parish.

Award of Merit
Contract 2 Boomtown Casino to Hero Pumping Station – Cajun Deep Foundations, LLC – Cajun constructed hurricane protection for the City of Westwego within a significantly condensed schedule of only 100 days.

Halliburton-Fourchon CFS Plant – Cajun Constructors, Inc. – Please see the description above.

Marathon Petroleum Company Garyville Major Expansion – Cajun Deep Foundations, LLC – Cajun was the sole pile driving contractor on this project, one of the largest privately funded projects underway in the U.S. The expansion of the facility will increase its capacity from 245,000 bpd to 425,000 bpd, making it among the largest refineries in the country.

Task Order 1, Contract 2B, Boomtown Casino to Hero Pumping Station, East of Harvey Canal Floodwall – Cajun Constructors, Inc. – This job was the first step in a grassroots project to provide hurricane protection to a heavily populated area on the east side of the Harvey Canal. Task Order 1 included the construction of the first 3,200 linear feet of floodwall.
